If the pressure is low or drops quickly after the pump stops, that's a strong indicator that the pump is weak or the check valve is leaking. If you don't own a gauge, buy one. It's about $40 at any auto parts store, and it's the only way to replace guesswork with facts.
Here's a way to think about it: a bidet attachment works the same way. When the spray gets weak, the problem is usually water pressure, not the attachment itself. Same principle here. Don't blame the pump without measuring the pressure.
Turn the ignition to ON without cranking the engine. Behind you, you should hear a faint whir for a couple of seconds as the fuel pump primes. No sound? The pump motor isn't spinning. A grinding noise? The impeller might be damaged.
In my experience, an XCMG 55 excavator with a bad pump often gives you a quiet click only—the relay works, but the pump is dead. I've also seen cases where the pump runs continuously because the pressure sensor is bad, but that's a different tree.
